The Minister of Communications , Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West, Lawyer and Gender Activist , Hon. Ursula Owusu Ekuful has been trying to discredit the appointment of a first female running mate to a major political party as not something new or anything surprising to Ghanaians.

The Lawyer who granted a media interview said the New Patriotic Party which she belongs to is on record to have supported the women empowerment course than the National Democratic Congress.

This whole issue about feminism and women empowerment has resurfaced because of the latest appointment of Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang as the Running Mate for the National Democratic Congress and John Mahama going into the 2020 elections.

The appointment which has been met by hope and trust for Ghanaian women to occupy top positions in leadership spheres especially Governance , Education and the corporate world. Many feminist groups have declared their full support for her and this is sparking huge controversies between the governing party and the ruling party.

The Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party in a press briefing said Ghanaians shouldn’t take John Mahama serious because of her appointment of Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang.

This statement by Lawyer Yaw Buabeng Asamoah didn’t go down well with women and the Ghanaian populace as he has been asked to retract and apologize. But the Lawyer in a rebuttal stayed very clear that he never attacked the personality of Prof. Jane and so won’t apologize.

The Minister of Communications also said the Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang has never supported the women empowerment course and her party deserves the support of women because they have supported that course.

But as they always say the internet never forgets a picture of a newspaper has been found online with the the inscription “NPP hate Ghanaian women ” Ursula Owusu reveals with a picture of the Lawyer cum Lawmaker. It is however unclear what might have instigated that statement by the minister.
